District administration in various parts of the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, frequently arrest Christian clergy on the pretext that their religious activities are likely to breach the peace in a region. These detentions carried out under the aegis of Sections 107, 116 and 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Cr.P.C.), are plagued by grave procedural flaws, that deny detainees rights granted to them in law.
